2022 Will Be Revolutionary Too
If you read my last blog, Thirty-Two WILL be REVOLUTIONARY, then you will truly understand why I’ve decided to decree that 2022 Will Be Revolutionary Too.
Now, it was not my intent to rhyme but because it does, I pray these words stick with you that much more.
As I cycled through memories of 2021 and began planning for 2022, I decided that my word for the year 2022 (date) AND 32 (life) would be REVOLUTIONARY.
The word revolutionary means to bring about a major or fundamental change.
For me specifically, revolutionary means that I will officially get out of my own way.
Now, I must admit, at the tender age of 32, I’ve worked very hard, and I’ve accomplished quite a bit. BUT even in that, there are a lot of things that I have yet to tap into as it relates to my purpose.
Lord knows my writing is much bigger than my sporadic blogging therefore, I spent the first seven days of 2022 planning and strategizing for what’s to come.
I, first, want to encourage you to also set a word to decree over 2022.
Ask yourself, what would I like my 2022 mantra to be? What word is going to fuel and motivate me to achieve?
Use that word to strive, plan, fight, cry, and work towards each dream that you desire to accomplish over the next 365 days.
Psalms 37:4 says this, “take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires”.
Allow that verse to serve as a reminder that you are NOT in this thing alone.
Submit your plan to God, take delight in Him, write down your visions and desires, and put forth the work so that all you desire CAN and WILL come to pass.
Although we are officially a week and some days into 2022, I want to give a few pointers on how to get started on the right foot.
We can make plans all day long, but if this pandemic has taught nothing else, it is that OUR plans can change, rapidly.
The important part about planning is that even in the mist of transition and unexpected change, you are still able to work towards your goal while navigating each potential detour along the way.
Because best believe, detours will always come, but with an end goal in mind, the main objective of your plan will stay the same.
The route along the way just changes. Please, come to a resolve about that NOW.
I cannot tell you how many plans I’ve made in which the Lord rerouted to be HIS WILL and not mine.
THE END GOAL was still the END GOAL, but the route experienced a detour. It happens and that’s okay, like Dory said, “JUST KEEP SWIMMING”.
It's super important to remain adaptable, not just with planning but with every area of your life. You NEVER know where God will decide to take you.
So, let’s start with the basics, we've already began brainstorming on our Mantra for 2022, for me, it's revolutionary. It's written down in more places than I'd like to admit BUT it serves as constant reminder for me to GET TO WORK.
Habakkuk 2:2 says, “Write down what I show you. Write it clearly on a sign so that the message will be easy to read.”
You may have heard that verse simply put as “write the vision and make it plain”.
Which leads us to the most important step to planning, WRITE THE VISION.
On any given day, so many blog ideas come across my mind, 75% of the time, I do NOT write them down.
In thirty minutes (or less) later, the idea is gone.
With access to so much technology now, there is really no excuse not to capture an idea instantly.
Therefore, you can write your vision in several difference ways. We have constant access to our phones and pretty much every household has a pen and paper somewhere.
So, there are NO EXCUSES. WRITE IT DOWN. Even in your brainstorming phases, WRITE IT DOWN.
Next, set benchmarks and timelines for each goal also known as SMART goals.
SMART stands for:
S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Achievable
R – Realistic
T – Timeframe
If you have a goal to publish a book, save money, lose weight, pay down debt, etc., create a goal and a timeline for how that goal CAN and WILL come to pass.
For example, I desire to save at least $5,000 over the next 6-12 months. It is a very doable and tangible goal, but it means nothing if I lack a specific plan of action.
At the beginning of the year, I researched high earning savings accounts, picked the one that best suited my needs, and setup $250 to automatically transfer to that account EVERY pay period.
This is an account that I cannot easily access which is why it is separated from my traditional banking account.
The thought of transferring $250 EVERY pay period made me extremely nervous, BUT I TRUST GOD.
If nothing else, with declaring that this will be a revolutionary year, I must STRETCH myself for those words to come to pass. After all, change does feel uncomfortable sometimes.
It’s not impossible but it does require an extra layer of focus and discipline.
Although webster’s dictionary does not define insanity this way, I’m sure you’ve heard insanity described as, “doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”.
Simply put, when you know better, do better. Now that’s sometimes more easily said than done, however, I am giving very specific pointers on how to execute “doing better” in a realistic manner.
So, let’s have a quick recap.
To aid in 2022 starting off on the right foot, we’ve covered these three things: (1) Creating a Mantra for 2022, (2) Writing the Vision, and (3) Setting Realistic SMART Goals for the Vision.
Now, there are endless planning methods and strategies that can be utilized to help your goals come to fruition, but I’ve found that these three are the easiest and most realistic for me.
There is no one size fits all scenario in this specific thing, so please do what works for you.
I encourage you to dedicate a specific notebook or even invest in a planner where you can dump your ideas, goals, and visions. I’ve personally found it most helpful to store all those things in one place.
If you’re wondering where to begin, take a moment to reflect on the areas in 2021 that needed a little more TLC.
Whether the area of focus is financial, physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, intellectual, environmental, or social, set SMART realistic goals on how you can improve your overall quality of life and how you can accomplish the things you desire.
I have a goal set for each wellness areas mentioned above and a plan for how I will challenge and grow in that specific area.
No matter how big or small, I want to constantly grow and improve to be the best me I can be.
EVOLUTION is ongoing process that requires continual growth and continual learning.
What will your evolution in 2022 say about you?
