Day 24: #BlogLikeCrazy – Thankful Thursday

Yesterday’s blog turned poem addressed the difficulty of finding the “holiday spirit”, so today, on THANKSgiving, I wanted to dripple a little gratitude your way.

Day 23 of #BlogLikeCrazy intentionally gave us space to feel whatever it is we may feel but today is a new day.

Although the holidays can be difficult and your day may not be the way you’ve envisioned it, I encourage you take a moment, even if just for thirty seconds to embrace what you have.

Embrace what is versus what is not.

It is effortless to wallow in the uneasy and displeasing seasons of life, but happiness, gratitude, and joyfulness requires intentionality.

Have you ever wondered why anger is such an easy and quick emotion?

Have you ever wondered why the Bible says you should be slow to anger?

It is because ANGER is effortless.

Sometimes, sadness is also effortless.

It takes a lot of discipline to retrain your mind and to counter negativity with positivity.

It takes a lot to self-regulate and control emotions. It takes a lot to have difficult conversations.

But today, we’re going to practice just that.

We won’t focus on the people, places, or things who angered us or brought us sadness.

We won’t focus on how displeased we may be with current life circumstances.

We will focus on the blessings we have right in front of us.

We will embrace our future while being thankful for our past. It is our past that made us who we are today.

It is our future that will determine who we are to become.

No matter what we feel, we have a roof over our heads. We can feed ourselves, cloth ourselves, and care for ourselves.

So, today, we will be THANKFUL for what IS.

We will exercise an attitude of gratitude. Let’s take about 30 seconds to write or speak things that we are grateful for.

I know that it sounds a bit cliché but sometimes we need those cliché reminders to point us in the right direction.

* Set the timer for 30 seconds and let’s get it. *

I am grateful for my peace of mind. I am grateful to be able to do all that I need and some of what I want.

I am grateful for the love, support, and accountability of my family and friends.

I am grateful for my job, my businesses, my successes and my failures.

I am grateful for the tough decisions, bad decisions, and unpleasantries as they made me who I am today.

I am grateful for growth, safe spaces, therapy, and difficult conversations.

I am grateful for my influence and my ability to break through barriers.

I am grateful for maturity and the importance of saying no.

I am grateful for boundaries, transparency, and vulnerability.

I am grateful for the tangible things that make life easier and better.

I am grateful for a safe roof over my head, clothes on my body, and to be in my right mind.

I am grateful for accountability, new connections, and new possibilities.

I am grateful for the breath in my body, the clear air that moves throughout my lungs.

I am grateful for each one of you who will read this blog on today.

What is it that you are grateful for?

Until Next Time, #KeyInspires
